Questions I'm Asked

Here are some questions (with answers) that I am often asked. If you have any other questions about your Wedding Photography please feel free to get in touch, I am more than happy to help.

How long have you been a wedding photographer ? I have been shooting weddings for over 25 years and 20 of them as a professional, in those years I have been one of the most prolific wedding photographers in Northern Ireland covering nearly 1500 weddings in my career so far. I am also a member of the very respected International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP).

Do you have Insurance ? I carry Public Indemnity and Public Liability insurance and recommend that all my wedding clients get insurance also to cover themselves for other things that are not photography related.

Do you carry back-up equipment ? I use only the best Nikon professional equipment available and carry two backup cameras and a vast array of different lenses that would cover me for any situation.

Do you do family and group photographs ? Absolutely, a wedding isn’t just about the Bride & Groom it’s also about the people you share your day with, it is important to get the groups but you also need to relax and enjoy yourself as well.

Do we meet up before the wedding ? It’s a must ! This is the most important meeting we would have, it’s when we discuss the shot list, the timings, group photographs, the service and many other things that you would never think about. It’s best to do this meeting in the morning around a week before the big day.

Can guests take photographs ? Not a problem, after all it is important for them to enjoy the day also, I would ask that they just give me a little space to get the official shots but generally it’s never usually a problem.

Do you work with Videographers ? Yep, no worries at all. In-fact I know most of them well, if you want to know who the really good ones are check the suppliers page on my website or give me a call.

How long does it take to get the album ? Once you have chosen the images that you want to go into your album it is usually 4 weeks in design and 3-4 weeks in production. So usually 7-8 weeks, although this can be vary slightly depending on the time of year and if I am out a lot on summer weddings.

How many photographs do you take on a wedding ? This can vary greatly depending on the collection booked, the size of the wedding, the time of year and venue. It’s rare if I do not get over 500+ in the smaller collections and can be 800 + in the bigger collections.

Do you charge for travel ? I travel to most wedding venues in Northern Ireland free of charge and even some in the South. My mileage rate is 45p per mile (HMRC rate) after 100 miles. If the wedding is far away it may not be possible to do in one day and there may be an overnight rate. This is worked out on a individual basis.

Can you hold the date for me ? Unfortunately not as this can be very hard for me to keep track of. If you request a date through the availability page on my website you will automatically be alerted by email if anyone else enquires about the same date. If this happens you can get in touch with me to discuss the options.

Are the prices guaranteed ? All the prices quoted in the price list are guaranteed for you and locked in at the time of booking, if the prices do rise due to external factors you will not be liable.

How long do the photographs take ? It depends on which collection is booked, I always recommend leaving 1.5 hours for photography, this allows time if we get showers and any other delays along the way.

Can we get engagement photographs taken ? Yes, I love shooting engagements. It’s a great way for you to get used to being in front of the camera and for us to learn a bit about each other in the process. If this is something that would be of interest to you please feel free to get in touch.

How much is the booking deposit ? The booking deposit is £150 and is non-refundable, it will come of the total cost of the collection chosen, this is unlike a booking fee which is on top of the cost. It is always advisable to check this with any suppliers you use.

How far in advance do you book out ? I run around 1 year in advance for bookings as I limit myself to around 40 – 45 weddings per year. Most of my weddings book 1.5 years in advance.

Can you supply images for submission to magazines and papers ? Off-course, all I need is the email address of the person dealing with your submission and I will do the rest for you.

Can you meet us at the reception venue leading up to the wedding ? If you would like me to meet you for a walk around at your venue it is no problem, there is a charge for the extra time and travel incurred. It may be an unnecessary expense as there are very few venues that I have not worked at before, especially in Northern Ireland.

Wedding albums are more than a collection of pictures, they are the only physical reminder of the emotions and heartfelt moments that occurred between you and your loved ones on that special day.
